Solstice was composed for the Rob Buckland Saxophone Prize at the Royal Northern College of Music. It is a lively and energetic piece from start to finish following an ABA structure with two contrasting ideas. Most of the work was written outside in Heaton Park while the UK was experiencing wonderful weather and it was completed within the week of the 2023 Summer Solstice.
