Droplets - Soprano Saxophone and Vibraphone

£20.00

The piece is comprised of two contrasting sections. The first is focussed on energy and rhythmic drive. The second section is slower and explores motific development and extended techniques such as slap tongue and air tone. This then transitions into the final section, which is a development of the first, introducing new musical ideas alongside already established writing.

When writing the piece, I was picturing different forms of precipitation. My initial ideas came during a thunderstorm in the night, hence the energy levels in the first and last sections are quite vigorous at times. The slower section is an interpretation of the aftermath of the storm, where raindrops were still flowing off the rooftops onto the pavement, but the aggression of the storm had calmed.
